TAINTED

Haunted memories, sleepless night
A restless fugitive of the past
Ugly scenes linger in your head
As if long years haven't passed by
Hundreds of times you've tossed and turned
The long night aches for a deep slumber
Wet pillows, deafening silence
Still, hurting words echo like a chime
The things you've done or left undone
Confines your thoughts like a prison cell
Tainted memories, judgmental minds
A cross pendant around your neck
Shamed by past delusions and mistakes
Your sleepy head wears guilt like a crown
As nightmare pays another visit
Chronic fear resides in your weary mind
While sleep is still a constant struggle
And weariness slowly steals your life
A helpless soul in need of some rest
Sighed surrender in a silent prayer
Oh God! Grant this tainted mind some peace.
